Kathmandu, Jan 12: Seven sitting and former employees at the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) have been accused of embezzling thousands of rupees by illegally issuing smart licence.
According to the report submitted by the DoTM to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the then two Information Technology Directors (undersecretary) and five computer engineers for the DoTM are found to have been involved in illegally issuing smart licences.
The accused government officials have been identified as then directors of Information Technology Srichandra Sah and Pabitra Dangol, and computer engineers Raj Kumar Maharjan, Keshab Raj Gautam, Kapila Shrestha Thaiba, Santosh Pokharel and Suraj Prakash Aryal.
During the period when the licences were issued illegally, Sah and Dangol were working in the Information Technology Branch of the DoTM, and Maharjan, Gautam, Thaiva, Pokharel and Aryal were serving as computer engineers.
During the period, the total 102,711 smart licences were issued illegally in eight years, said the report. CIAA is said to be summoning the accused for investigations.
