Kathmandu, Jan 12: The first provincial Model United Nations Simulation, 2024 has kicked off. As part of this simulation, the U.S. Embassy, in collaboration with Youth Thinkers’ Society, an organisation focusing on leadership development and capacity building of youth through active engagement and participation, organised a three-day Madhesh United Nations simulation in Birgunj recently.
The simulation brought together over 50 students and young professionals who discussed ideas to address child, early, and forced marriage and access to quality education for all. The delegates actively engaged in debates through their insightful caucus, diplomatic negotiations, and drafting resolutions.
Similarly, the event featured captivating performances, including the Jhijhiya dance to Mithila art exhibition, to renditions of old Nepali and lively Bhojpuri songs.
The first day of the event saw the presence of Rajesh Man Singh, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, as chief guest, Amita Sharma, a former Teach for Nepal Fellow, as the esteemed guest.
On the second day, an hour-long expert session was organised. The participating experts Dharmendra Prasad Chaurasiya and Sharma discussed contemporary issues.
On the closing day, participants discussed the theme of ‘Diplomacy in Action’.
The closing ceremony was conducted with the presence of Dipak Shakya, Vice Chancellor of Madhesh University as the chief guest and Chanchala Das, Founder of Women’s Skill Lab as the guest.
“We believe that this MUN created a valuable impact on the diplomatic journey of our delegates and provided a fruitful experience for everyone involved,” said Youth Thinkers’ Society.
MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country.
