Kathmandu, June 29: Nepal is celebrating the National Paddy Day today. The Day, observed every year on the 15th of the Nepali month Asar, marks the beginning of the paddy planting season.
One of the farmers who have received support of USAID for agriculture is Nayan Kala Khadka from Bara district. These farmers have been benefiting by utilising better rice varieties, quality agricultural inputs, and even a rice seedling transplanter machine for the first time, according to USAID Nepal.
Notably, Khadka adopted these practices after learning from Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Inputs’ partner, Sana Kishan Krishi Sahakari Sanstha Limited. She learned about using fertiliser effectively, leading her to expect a 15-20 precent increase in her harvest this year. Not only that, she is also sharing her knowledge with other female farmers, empowering them too.
Over five years, Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Inputs aims to empower 200,000 farmers (70 percent female) by increasing the availability, accessibility, and use of agricultural inputs and technology, to improve Nepal’s agricultural productivity, it said.
