Kathmandu, Sept 10: Lawmaker Gokul Prasad Baskota has suggested the Deputy Speaker to pave the way by resigning from the post as questions have already been raised in the parliament against her.

Speaking in the special hour of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Baskota said it would be appropriate for the Deputy Speaker to resign from the post on moral grounds as questions regarding the issue of sending non-related people to US by her were raised in the parliament time and again.

Reminding that he resigned from the post of Minister after question was raised upon him, lawmaker Baskota said a true politician should show such courage.

He stressed, “Raising question and demanding accountability are not against democracy. If questions are raised about positional responsibility and character of a person, they should be able to prove it wrong. It will be appropriate to support by tendering resignation to adopt transparency.”

Lawmaker Baskota stressed the need of encouraging private sector through policy-level reforms.

Lawmaker Gurung demands fair probe into charges against him

Meanwhile, speaking in a special hour of today’s HoR meeting, lawmaker Dhan Raj Gurung, demanded fair investigation into the allegation against him on cooperative savings fraud issue.

He requested the Home Ministry and bodies concerned to investigate the charges leveled against him at a time when the final report of cooperative saving fraud case is going to be submitted in the parliament.

Stating that he would support the investigation, lawmaker Gurung stressed that the complaint filed against him should be finalized soon.

Deputy Speaker is insulted: lawmaker Paudel

Similarly, speaking in the special time in the HoR meeting today, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Devendra Paudel said attempts have been made to insult the HoR Deputy Speaker by bringing the topic of her resignation.

He said it ill behooves a powerful government removing the Deputy Speaker and a woman leader from the indigenous nationalities community who has worked in the social service sector. To do so will also be in contravention of democracy and it will be against the principle of separation of power.

“The issue of the resignation of the Deputy Speaker had come in the media, but it is proved that a campaign had been waged on this, now that the issue has been brought up in Parliament,” he said.

He demanded that those implicated in big corruption scams be brought to justice. Lawmaker Paudel called on the government to work seriously to arranging for relief and compensation to the disaster victims.
