Kathmandu, Oct 14: Record-holding Nima Rinji Sherpa, the youngest person to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks over 8000m at 18 years and 5 months old, received a hero’s welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport today upon his return home. He completed his final ascent of Mount Shishapangma (8,027m), the 14th highest peak in the world, achieving a record-breaking achievement in the 14×8000’er challenge.
Nima Rinji was part of a team that included Dawa Yangzum Sherpa, the first Nepali woman to summit all 14 peaks, and Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, who made history for summiting all the peaks without supplemental oxygen. Similarly, Nirmal Purja made history for achieving the fastest ascent of all 14 peaks without supplemental oxygen and achieving 50 summits of 8,000 meters mountains.
Other climbers in the team, who made history, included Pasang Tendi Sherpa, Tejan Gurung, Mingtemba Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, and Dawa Gyalje Sherpa.
