Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the government was alert towards the crisis seen in the country’s economy. Inaugurating the Sudurpaschim Province-level industrial trade fair and Kanchanpur tourism festival here Monday, the Prime Minister said that he has given special attention for the reforms in the economy since assuming office. PM Prachanda argued that the economy was on track through the public-private partnership that he decided from the first meeting of his cabinet. “We are advancing towards creating favourable environment for investment and trade for the private sector by resolving the challenges seen in the economy.

Two months have not passed (after election to the PM) but positive signs are visible in the economy,” according to the PM. The PM stated revenue collection and foreign reserves have increased in the country but added that some policy level reforms were still needed and the government is focused to the same direction. On the occasion, PM Dahal said that development construction process for the dry port in Dodhara Chandani of Kanchanpur has been forwarded and would be implemented after signing the MoU with India. He also pledged to raise this issue with top priority during his upcoming India visit. Likewise, the Prime Minister shared that he got opportunities to constitute Sudurpaschim Development Commission and announcement of a university.

“I had an opportunity to allocate budget for Geta Medical College. Now, this is going to complete,” PM Prachanda added. Along with the construction of dry port, development of Mahakali corridor would be expedited to establish link with the country’s northern point. “This shall not only result in economic development of Sudurpaschim but also make huge contribution to the nation’s economic development,” he remarked. On the occasion, the PM said that the projects being implemented in all nine districts of the Sudurpaschim will not face budget crunch and added that a firm commitment for development was imperative to transform the citizen’s disappointment into hope.

Prior to inaugurating the festival, PM Prachanda also made onsite visits to the dry port construction site and under construction four-lane motorable bridge over the Mahakali River. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari, Minister for Health and Population Padam Giri, former minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province Kamal Bahadur Shah and others accompanied the PM in the visit.
