KATHMANDU: Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal, Torun Dramdal, recently visited Okhaldhunga district in Koshi Province with a team from the Norwegian Embassy.
The visit focused on engaging with local actors involved in advancing women’s rights and health services.
During the visit, the team toured the Okhaldhunga Community Hospital, which is operated by the United Mission to Nepal (UMN). Established in 1962, the hospital has been a vital link in the enduring people-to-people connections between Norway and Nepal.
Over the years, many Norwegian doctors and nurses have contributed their expertise to this institution, further cementing the bond between the two nations.
The Embassy team also visited a safehouse for survivors of gender-based violence, a project implemented by UNFPA Nepal in partnership with local organizations. Ambassador Dramdal engaged with elected representatives, the safehouse team, and community psychosocial workers (CPSWs) to better understand the challenges and successes in supporting survivors and promoting psychosocial well-being.
Both UMN and UNFPA work in close collaboration with local government authorities to ensure the effective delivery of these critical services. The visit underscored the importance of strong partnerships, competent staff, and community engagement in achieving positive outcomes.
The Norwegian Embassy expressed its gratitude to the teams at UMN, UNFPA, and the hospital and safehouse for their dedication and for taking time to share insights into their impactful work.
