Kirtipur : A large number of crows found dead on the Tribhuvan University campus premises in Kirtipur have been confirmed to be infected with bird flu. A joint team of Kirtipur Municipality and the Animal Health Department collected 68 crows found dead on the Tribhuvan University campus and buried them today.
Sushila Gaire, the municipality’s animal service department chief, told RSS that 10 dead crows were sent to the laboratory for testing, which confirmed bird flu in the crows. After that, the team of the municipality and the animal service department decided to collect the dead crows today. The team was also instructed to collect samples of other birds found dead in the same place. A total of 64 crows collected today have been buried.
Chief Gaire said that no other birds were found dead in the park. “Since birds fly everywhere in open areas, its control is more complicated than bird flu seen in chickens,” she said. According to her, a public notice has also been issued to not transport chicken feed in the Kirtipur municipality area. Talking to RSS, senior veterinarian Mukul Upadhyay of the Animal Services Department said that both types of bird flu viruses, H1N1 and H9, were found in the dead crows.
