Gandaki, Sept 9: High alert has been raised in the downstream areas after the flow of the Kimrung rivulet in Kaski’s Annapurna Rural Municipality-11 suddenly decreased, fearing that a landslide at some place in the upstream might have blocked it.
The local administration last night publicly urged residents living near the Kimrung and Modi rivers to stay in safe places to avoid potential risks.
According to Police Inspector Rajan Kumar Patel of the District Police Office, Parbat, locals from settlements like Dimuwa and Ambot along the Modi River have been moved to safe places after early warning announcements over loudspeakers.
Chitranga Baral, the Assistant Chief District Officer of Kaski, said that after receiving information from locals that a landslide had blocked the river, alertness in the riverbank areas has been increased.
“After receiving news that the river has overflowed, high alert has been adopted, and everyone has been informed to stay in a safe place,” he said.
