KATHMANDU: Leader of Nepali Congress (NC), Shekhar Koirala, today emphasized providing employment opportunities to the ex-combatants of the Maoists than distributing money from the state coffers.
“Distribution of money cannot be acceptable,” Koirala said on social media.
He said that it was not appropriate to distribute money in the name of the former Maoist disqualified fighters at a time when the government is finding it difficult to pay salaries to government staffers and pensions to retired teachers.
Merely distributing money to former Maoist fighters cannot be judicious when the Maoists have not been able to provide an account and record of the amount of money that was allocated to the combatants in the cantonment in the past.
The government has recently decided to initiate a procedure to provide funds of Rs. two lahks each to the disqualified fighters.
