Kathmandu, July 1: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ underlined the initiatives of Universities to identify the reasons behind brain-drain among the youth and to create an enabling environment for them to stay back home.

Addressing the 39th meeting of the Purbanchal University Assembly here today, PM Dahal expressed his concern over the increasing number of youths and students seeking greener pastures and spoke of the need to stop this trend.

Dahal also instructed the concerned authorities to prepare curriculum and run academic programmes catering to the choice, need and priorities of the youths and students of the 21st century, according to the Prime Minister Dahal’s Private Secretariat.

Apart from radically changing the curriculum, he emphasized the special role of universities in arranging subsistence employment or enterprising opportunities for the students.

The Head of the Government emphasized focusing on seeking alternative resources for producing skilled human resources in all sectors.

“In this context, the incumbent government is committed towards resolving policy level and legal problems that could emerge while coordinating efforts among three-tier government,” reaffirmed the Head of the Government, assuring support from government to revise laws for this purpose.

PM Dahal, on a different note, called for conserving micro-research, natural heritage, traditional knowledge and skills to reduce the impact of climate change as well as to conserve biodiversity.

He stressed on the need for the universities to play a leading role in producing human resources who could bring about positive changes in the overall national economy through tourism promotion, modernization of agriculture and mechanization of agriculture.

The Prime Minister also suggested the Purbanchal University to conduct micro research on the local produces such as brown cardamom, tea, Rudrakshya, herbal plants, jute and fruits among others.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to provide healthcare services to the locals in convenient manner by building a well-equipped hospital and running a medical college at Gothgaun in Morang.
