Kathmandu, July 14: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, has urged the government to initiate any necessary investigations against him without hesitation.

Speaking at a farewell programme organized at the Home Ministry today, he stated, “If authorities were self-constrained to investigate me previously, they should proceed ahead now. The law applies to me equally if I am responsible for any wrongdoing.”

It may be noted that Lamichhane is accused of misappropriation of the cooperative funds and has been criticized for it in the House, too.

Later in his address, Lamichhane expressed his hope for an impartial and effective investigation into several issues, including the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, the Tikapur incident, and the Patanjali and Balmandir land grab controversies.

He said while changes in government are not uncommon, the operations of the police and employee administration should remain unaffected by such transitions. He urged officials responsible for home affairs and security to maintain impartiality regardless of changes in government leadership.

He said the government has not yet released the investigation reports on the gold smuggling cases due to ongoing investigation.

Though during his four-month stay in the government, he could deliver nothing significant but has created some bases, as he said. He urged the bodies concerned to strengthen such foundations positively and strengthen them.

The CPN (UML) is scheduled to form a new government this evening with the support of the Nepali Congress (NC), the largest party in the parliament.
