Kaski, Aug 27: Two Spanish tourists have gone missing while hiking at Ghorepani, a famous tourist spot under the circular Annapurna trail. Bharat Man Gurung, spokesman for Annapurna Rural Municipality confirmed that the Spanish citizens were lost while going to Ghorepani from Tikhedhunga of Annapurna Rural Municipality-9 in Kaski on Sunday.
He said that two bags of tourists were found abandoned on the road near the bridge of Bhurungdi river on Sunday evening, but their whereabouts could not be found despite the search all day into Monday. The tourists are suspected to have been swept away by the Bhurungdi river, he added.
“They might have been swept away while trekking along the old road. They were registered at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project check point that they were going to Ghorepani,” he said. Yam Bahadur Gurung, head of ACAP check post, informed that the tourists were registered on Sunday morning. He said that they might have fallen into the river while taking photos of a waterfall nearby.
During a search conducted by the police with the help of people’s representatives and local people, the tourists’ backpacks, and two trekking sticks were found near a waterfall in the area, he said. On Tuesday, a team of divers will carry out a search in the river, it has been informed.
