Kathmandu, Sept 6: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dev Raj Ghimire, has extended best wishes on the occasion of the Teej festival today, saying may this festival infuse enthusiasm and motivation for building an equitable society by ending all forms of discrimination, violence and social evil practices.
In a message of best wishes today, Speaker Ghimire extended Teej greetings to all the Nepali women within the country and abroad, describing Teej as the occasion when women express through various mediums the discriminations they are facing. “Besides religious and cultural values, this festival also has important role in raising social awareness. This is also a festival for spreading the message of women’s awareness,” he said.
Speaker Ghimire urged one and all to celebrate the festival in a civilized way bereft of the unnecessary pomp and showoff.

Similarly, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has wished that may the Teej festival, mainly observed by women, inspire the Nepali sisters to come in the leading role in the economic, social and political realms in the coming days.
The Chairman of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament also wished for peace, happiness, prosperity and continued progress of all sisters on the occasion of the Teej. “I am confident that the Teej festival will foster familial bonding and social ties as well as provide the motivation for women empowerment and solidarity for equality and rights,” he said in a message of best wishes today.
He urged one and all to celebrate Teej as a festival promoting discussions, debates and advocacy for building an equitable society free of gender-based discriminations while remaining aware against the economic, social and cultural anomalies that might creep in the name of Teej celebrations.
