Kathmandu, Oct 26: Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri said focused discussion would be held on the agenda of climate finance in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-29) to be held in Baku of Azerbaijan on coming November 12-22. At the ‘National Climate Summit’ organized here today to make the COP-29 meaningful, Minister Thakuri said the agenda of climate finance would be emphatically raised in the COP.

“All the countries would unite in the COP to avert the crises resulting in from the climate change. We would move ahead to address our needs through further support and collaboration by making wider publicity of the outcomes Nepal achieved in its mitigation amidst the climate crisis”, Minister Thakuri noted.
Minister Thakuri said discussions would be held on finance-related issues taking into consideration the difficulties facing the developing countries to fight the challenges posed by climate change without financial assistance. “It is important for all nations to unite in their efforts to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius. To achieve this, the world needs to prioritize reducing carbon emissions by adopting clean and sustainable energy sources”, the minister added.

Thakuri further said the international community would be informed about the glacial lake explosion and floods in Kathmandu and other areas due to climate change. “The crisis brought out by climate change poses a serious threat to the world as a whole today. To combat this, it is important that the world should unite. Nepal is taking a lead role in resolving the problem of climate change and will coordinate and cooperate in the coming days as well,” he claimed.
Endorsing and adhering to the Climate Change Convention, 1992 and the Paris Agreement, 2015, Nepal has been fulfilling its commitments and is implementing the National Adaptation Programme.

“Agriculture and food security, water resources, tourism, health and overall economy are beginning to see its adverse effects. Therefore, it is necessary for all to work together to solve climate change”, he said. “International level cooperation is essential to combat the impacts of climate change,” he said, adding that developed countries should help implement climate-friendly plans in developing countries by providing financial and technology-related cooperation.
