Kathmandu – Several organizations staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu, urging the government to annul the buffalo meat export agreement with China.
The demonstration, led by various non-violent and vegetarian advocacy groups, highlighted the ethical concerns surrounding the deal. Protesters carried placards with messages such as “Let us live and let others live,” “Cancel the meat export agreement,” and “Show compassion to all living beings.”
The demonstrators argued that exporting buffalo meat to China undermines the principle of animal welfare and urged the government to reconsider its decision. “We are protesting to draw attention to the importance of preserving the lives of all creatures,” they stated.
The agreement, signed during the Nepali Prime Minister’s recent visit to China, aims to facilitate buffalo meat exports as part of a broader trade partnership. However, the government has defended the pact, citing its significance in promoting the trade of animal-based products between Nepal and China.
Despite the government’s position, protesters have emphasized the need for compassionate policies that prioritize ethical and sustainable practices over economic benefits.
