Dhading : Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakashman Singh has said promotion of folk culture has contributed to the nation’s overall development as it upholds the nation’s identity.
Inaugurating the Dhading Folk Cultural Festival on Thursday, DPM Singh said publicity of folk cultures was vital for the country’s economic development, social unity and tourism promotion.
“Foreigners are more attracted to Nepal’s folk cultures and traditions. Such festivals could become the medium to lure domestic and foreign tourists. This shall help uplift the tourism industry,” according to DPM Singh.
He viewed that such festivals help enhance the sale of local goods, hotel business, handicrafts, public transport and other economic activities, making the local economy vibrant.
Similarly, he urged the youth to work for the preservation of their cultural identity by exhibiting their typical traditions, costumes, music, dance and arts. Cultural festivals too help take pride in one’s cultures, DPM Singh stated.
The 11-day cultural festival would promote the folk cultures and cultural identity, the organizer said.
The folk duet song competition, locally available foods have been kept in the showcase.
