KATHMANDU – French Ambassador to Nepal, Virginie CORTEVAL, met with Dr. Ojaswi Acharya, Country Director of Action contre la Faim (ACF) – Nepal to discuss ongoing efforts to combat severe acute malnutrition and strengthen nutrition programs in the country.

The meeting underscored the critical role of international collaboration in addressing Nepal’s nutrition challenges and preparing for the upcoming global Nutrition for Growth Summit, hosted by France in March 2025.

During the discussion, Dr. Acharya highlighted ACF Nepal’s work in treating severe acute malnutrition and its partnership with Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population to enhance government-led nutrition initiatives.

ACF Nepal has been instrumental in supporting the implementation of the Multi-Sector Nutrition Plan (MSNP), a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing malnutrition across the country. The organization has also played a key role in fostering civil society engagement to ensure a coordinated approach to nutrition.

Ambassador CORTEVAL praised ACF Nepal’s efforts, emphasizing France’s commitment to global nutrition and its support for Nepal’s health

The upcoming Nutrition for Growth Summit, to be held in Paris, is expected to bring together global leaders, policymakers, and organizations to renew commitments to improving nutrition and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). The summit will provide a platform for countries like Nepal to showcase their progress and challenges, while also securing support for future initiatives.

Nepal has made significant strides in reducing malnutrition in recent years, but challenges remain, particularly in remote and underserved regions. ACF Nepal’s work, supported by international partners like France, has been critical in addressing these gaps and ensuring that nutrition remains a priority on the national agenda.

As the global community prepares for the Nutrition for Growth Summit, the collaboration between France and ACF Nepal serves as a model for how international partnerships can drive meaningful change in the fight against malnutrition. Both parties expressed optimism about the future and reaffirmed their commitment to working together to improve nutrition outcomes in Nepal and beyond.
