Kathmandu : Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung has pressed the need to reap maximum benefits from deeper Nepal-India ties, particularly through the IT sector.
In his address to the ‘Second India-Nepal Startup Connect Programme,’ organized by the Embassy of India on Friday, the Communications Minister highlighted IT as a powerful tool to strengthen bilateral relations in today’s digital era.
He called for expanding the longstanding cultural, emotional, and open-border ties between Nepal and India into the realm of IT. He stressed the need for cooperation between young minds from both the countries to promote IT innovations.
The Minister, who also serves as the government spokesperson, shared that efforts are underway to enhance infrastructure, expand markets, and implement a digital framework in the IT sector. The minister also talked about the government’s plans to launch its own satellite, expand digital literacy, and introduce and implement an AI policy.
“We have a solid foundation to strengthen Nepal-India cooperation through IT innovations,” he said, adding that this collaboration would also benefit both the economies. India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, pledged to support entrepreneurship through cooperation on IT innovations between the two nations.
He stated that the Government of India has made significant investments in startups, and Nepal is also making strides in this area, suggesting the possibility of further collaboration for mutual progress.The Ambassador also invited Nepal to participate in the Startup Mahakumbh, which India will host from April 3-5, calling for creative partnership and mutual cooperation.
