Kathmandu, Feb 14: The government has started the service of online labour permit approval from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Nepal’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi is the country’s second diplomatic mission abroad to provide service of labour permit approval after the Embassy of Nepal, Muscat.

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sarat Singh Bhandari marked the beginning of the service amid an event in Dubai on Thursday, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi. On the occasion, Minister Bhandari said the government would gradually enhance services by simplifying them, making them more accessible and technology-friendly, considering the welfare of Nepali migrant workers in the countries of destination.

He stated that the provision of online labour permit approval would benefit Nepali labourers as they could continue their professions and business without travelling to Nepal to get their documents updated.
Minister Bhandari stated that this service will be gradually initiated from other diplomatic missions too.
Saying that a large number of youth population was working abroad and foreign employment was the key source for remittance money, Minister Bhandari stressed for making contextual policies for the protection of Nepali migrant workers as a part of better migration governance.

Likewise, Ambassador of Nepal to UAE Tej Bahadur Oli said the Embassy was committed to protecting the rights of Nepali migrant workers and added that the Embassy was working to provide effective service delivery despite limited means and resources.

The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi stated that representatives of various organizations from Diaspora community, Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) and others were present at the event.
On the occasion, an interaction programme on labour was also convened.

Minister Bhandari visited Dubai to participate in the World Government Summit 2025 taken place from February 11-13.
