Birtamod– In a significant effort to improve the quality of education and care for children with Autism in eastern Nepal, Australian volunteer Natalie Desjardins Moschakis has joined forces with local teachers and caregivers in Birtamod. Through the Australian Volunteers Program, Natalie is collaborating with the Autism Resource Centre at Mahendra Ratna Secondary School to provide much-needed therapy services, training, and expertise to support children with Autism and those who care for them.
As a skilled Occupational Therapist, Natalie’s role goes beyond the provision of therapy. She is actively engaging with local staff, teachers, and parents, offering specialized training aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of their work with children who have Autism. This hands-on approach is designed to ensure that caregivers are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to provide ongoing support, even after her volunteer assignment concludes.
In her collaboration with the Autism Resource Centre, Natalie’s mission is to not only improve immediate care but also to lay the foundation for sustainable development in autism care practices in the region. Her training sessions focus on offering practical, therapeutic techniques that will continue to benefit the community long-term, making a lasting impact on the lives of both children and their families.
This partnership reflects a growing commitment to addressing the needs of individuals with Autism in Nepal, where resources and specialized knowledge have historically been limited. By providing training and support, Natalie is helping to foster a more inclusive environment for children with Autism, ensuring that they receive the care and attention they deserve.
