Kathmandu, April 23: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has clarified that there is no problem in running the present government.

In a meeting today with journalists covering the Security Beat and in the context of the New Year 2082 BS, he urged them not to doubt the coalition over the issue of resignation of the Education Minister and appointment of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor.

“There is no such problem in the government. A member of the search committee formed to recommend the Governor has resigned. We will have to move ahead by fulfilling the position. We will discuss it in the upcoming Cabinet meeting and complete it,” he said, answering queries of journalists in the meeting.
The Home Minister made it clear that strong peace and security, efficient home administration and well-equipped security agencies were always his priorities.

He also said that he was pursuing legal and policy reforms simultaneously. Making it clear that policy and legal reforms were his priorities, Minister Lekhak said good governance could not be imagined of without policy reforms.

Stating that the bills related to Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have already reached the parliamentary committee for discussion, he said the Home Ministry was preparing to amend the act related to land acquisition, registration of institutions and social welfare.

He admitted that there may sometimes be weaknesses in the course of performance from subordinate bodies and made it clear the Home Administration would learn from it and move forward. Stating that criticism is acceptable in a democracy, Nepali Congress leader Lekhak urged the media to cooperate by pointing out shortcomings.

Home Minister Lekhak said that an investigation was underway into the violent protests by the pro-monarchist group at Tinkune in the capital on March 28. He also clarified that the police was conducting an internal investigation into the methods adopted to maintain security arrangements.
