Kathmandu : President Ramchandra Paudel has said the writers are source of knowledge and thoughts because they always cogitate in creative ways.

“Writers themselves are authority, organization, thoughts and campaign,” President Paudel observed during a programme organized to congratulate the newly elected committee of the Nepali Writers’ Association at his office on Thursday. The Head of the State extended best wishes to the newly elected committee of the Association.

The Association had elected a 301-member new committee under the chairmanship of Biyogi Budhathoki through the eighth national convention. The convention was held in Lumbini on March 16 and 17.

The President reminded the history that the Association had advocated strongly for the democratic rights including free expression and publication. Since its establishment, the umbrella union of the democratic writers held the stand of protection and promotion of democratic values through the collective efforts.

According to the President, the eminent literary persons like Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Balkrishna Sama, Hridaychandra Singh Pradhan and BP Koirala were affiliated to this Association. The democratic writers are always working for the cause of democracy, he added.

The Association was established in 2008BS. It has aimed at promoting and protecting Nepali language and literature by inspiring the writers and advocating for the creative rights.

The programme was attended by the Association chair Budhathoki, co-chair Manoj Neupane, vice chairs Dr Sashi Thapa Pandit, Dr Bishnu KC, deputy general secretary Narayan Sapkota and central members Mahendra Wagle, Indra Lamsal, Santosh Bohara, Shova Adhikari, Indira Niraula, Rajan Basnet, and advisors Dr Bishnu Bibhu Ghimire, Sandhya Pahadi and Shekhar Giri.
