Mustang, Nepal – U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Dean Thompson, visited Mustang this week to reaffirm the United States’ longstanding commitment to preserving Nepal’s rich cultural heritage through the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).

Joined by Public Affairs Chief Mike Harker and members of the U.S. Embassy team, Ambassador Thompson toured several AFCP-supported heritage sites, including Dzong Monastery, Gonpa Gang Monastery, and Lo Gekar Monastery.

The visit underscores the strength of the 78-year partnership between the United States and Nepal, focused on promoting sustainable tourism, inclusive economic growth, and cultural preservation. These efforts also foster stronger diplomatic ties and open up opportunities for local and U.S. businesses in tourism, hospitality, and education.

The delegation also had the opportunity to engage with local communities and project teams, and witness the Tiji Festival—a vibrant, living celebration of Mustang’s unique traditions and cultural identity.
