Kirtipur, Nepal — The Nepal-U.S. Alumni Network (NUSAN), in collaboration with Kirtipur Municipality, successfully organized the first-ever Heritage Walk in the historic city of Kirtipur, showcasing a strong commitment to cultural preservation, civic engagement, and the promotion of local economic opportunities.
Chargé d’affaires Jason Meeks and U.S. Embassy Cultural Affairs Officer Erica Alexander joined more than 40 alumni of U.S. government exchange programs, municipal leaders, and U.S. Mission staff on a guided exploration of seven iconic heritage landmarks across Kirtipur. The walk aimed to highlight the city’s unique cultural assets while promoting sustainable tourism and heritage-based entrepreneurship.
The program concluded with a vibrant cultural event featuring traditional Newari music, dance, and cuisine. The event also reaffirmed Kirtipur’s involvement in a U.S.-funded cultural preservation initiative, reflecting the United States’ long-standing commitment to safeguarding Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.
Chargé d’affaires Meeks emphasized that the Heritage Walk embodies key U.S. priorities—supporting sustainable tourism, empowering local communities through cultural enterprise, and strengthening people-to-people ties.
The event marked 78 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the United States, reinforcing a shared vision of a more connected, secure, and prosperous future.
