Kathmandu, 15 August 2025 – The Embassy of India in Kathmandu marked the 79th Independence Day of India with a grand celebration attended by members of the Indian community in Nepal, friends of India, and embassy officials along with their families.
The program began with the hoisting of the Indian national flag by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, followed by the broadcast of the Independence Day address by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. In her address, the President highlighted the remarkable achievements of India over the past 78 years and underscored the nation’s commitment to inclusive development.
On the occasion, the Ambassador honoured the widows and next of kin of deceased personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, presenting Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF) cheques with a total value of NPR 6.4 crores.
The Embassy also announced a book grant for 39 educational institutions and libraries across seven provinces and 21 districts of Nepal, aiming to improve access to quality educational resources for students, particularly in remote regions.
The celebration featured enthusiastic participation from the Indian community and well-wishers in Nepal. The event was further enriched by cultural performances of patriotic songs presented by students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center of the Embassy and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu, adding a festive spirit to the occasion.
