Patan (Lalitpur), Aug 15: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Nepali Congress is a centre of trust of people of all castes, languages and regions.
At the inaugural session of Third National Convention of Nepal Rastriya Magar Sangh organised at the NC Party Office, Sanepa, today, he said that the NC was working for the empowerment of indigenous nationalities, Dalits, women, Muslims and backward communities with a commitment towards nationality, democracy and socialism.
“Magar is the largest ethnic group among indigenous communities of Nepal and the Magar Sangh was established in 2064 BS after sensing the necessity of a strong sister organisation to organise the Magars behind a democratic ideology,” viewed President Deuba.
He argued that the Sangh should shoulder more responsibility to take NC’s policy, ideology and principle among Magar community as well as make Magar community’s voice as the voice of the NC. “The Nepali Congress adopted ‘Kadamjam’ campaign in order to ensure rights and participation of Karnali, Dalits, indigenous and Madhesi communities as well as to guarantee representation of people from underprivileged communities, regions and genders within the party.”
He also assured of providing support and cooperation in order to establish leadership ensuring greater representation in a situation where there is nominal representation of Magar community in party leadership.
The NC President argued that the NC-led government had declared Lakhan Thapa, who got martyrdom after raising voice for the first time against Rana regime, as the first martyr.
He underscored that the NC was determined for effective implementation of achievements gained under leadership of NC—republic, federalism, secularism, proportional and inclusive system. The third convention would conclude on Saturday by electing a new working committee.
