Kathmandu — The U.S. Embassy in Nepal has handed over advanced forensic equipment to bolster Nepal’s crime-solving and drug detection capabilities. Through its Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice, the Embassy provided the Nepal Police Central Forensic Science Laboratory with a Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and a Radian ASAP drug testing machine.
These technologies are expected to significantly enhance the lab’s capacity to solve crimes, identify missing persons, expand drug detection, and strengthen the rule of law.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, U.S. Ambassador Dean R. Thompson reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Nepal in advancing forensic science and upholding justice, human rights, and law and order.
This initiative also aligns with the U.S. government’s global priority to combat the spread of fentanyl and disrupt synthetic opioid supply chains. The enhanced forensic capabilities will enable Nepal to contribute more effectively to both bilateral and regional efforts aimed at protecting communities across South Asia and the United States.
The handover underscores the strong partnership between Nepal Police and the United States in promoting security, justice, and the rule of law.
