Kathmandu, Sept 4: Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandra Kuber Khapung was presented with the insignia of his rank. The insignia was conferred on him by Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadee during a formal ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singha Durbar today.
On the occasion, the Home Secretary stated that Khapung’s promotion to the highest post in Nepal Police was based on his professional efficiency, competence, and seniority. He commended IGP Khapung’s significant contributions to maintaining peace and order, controlling crime, and promoting social justice in the country.

“It is our collective responsibility to ensure that citizens feel secure,” said the Home Secretary. “When we become companions in the joys and sorrows of the citizens by staying close to them, it reflects the effectiveness of police service.”

He wished the new IGP success in enhancing the prestige of Nepal Police and in achieving its goals while upholding the morale of police personnel.
Acknowledging the rising challenges in law enforcement, Duwadee said, “A new wave of crimes is emerging, and it is urgent to establish justice by curbing all forms of crimes.”

In his address, IGP Khapung expressed his commitment to serving both the institution and society. “I will do everything I can to serve the organization positively and will never act in a way that harms it,” he stated. He also added that organizational reform and the welfare of police personnel would be his top priorities as the police chief.

Highlighting emerging challenges in crime investigation, he stressed the need for strengthening the police force’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, cybercrime control, and tackling issues related to crypto currency.

Recalling his professional journey that began in a remote village of Tehrathum, IGP Khapung said it has now reached the rank of the chief of Nepal Police. He underscored the need to equip the force with advanced technology and adequate resources to meet current and future challenges effectively.
