Kathmandu : The central working committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa, who is elected president by the 2nd special general convention (SGC) of the Nepali Congress, reached the Election Commission for updating official documents relating to SGC and election of new committee.

The office bearers and central members under the leadership of President Thapa visited the central office of the Election Commission at Bahadur Bhawan and submitted the documents on reshuffling of NC central committee as per Clause 51 of Political Party Act, 2073. The team also handed over the documents like the decisions and proposals passed by the SGC, and details of the newly elected central working committee.

Thapa shared this information to the media after his team’s visit to Election Commission on Thursday.

Similarly, talking to media persons after submitting the documents to EC, Vice President under Thapa-led party, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, said the NC was not split but it had got legitimacy. The SGC elected the new central working committee unopposed on Wednesday. The office bearers and central members arrived at EC for updating the documents on it, he added.

Similarly, newly elected General Secretary in the Thapa-led NC, Gururaj Ghimire, informed that the first central working committee meeting of the party held before visiting EC, decided to form a parliamentary committee and a board for the purpose of allocating tickets for the upcoming March 5 House of Representatives election. Even a committee for drafting the party’s election manifesto has been formed under Thapa’s leadership.

The newly elected central committee reached EC along with legal practitioners, including senior advocates Harihar Dahal, Gopal Krishna Ghimire and Prem Bahadur Khadka.

Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari received the documents from Thapa. The Thapa-led team requested the EC for quick update on Nepali Congress in view of short time to forward preparation for the March 5 election.

The EC’s election schedule has slated January 20 as the date to file candidacy for 165 constituencies under the first-past-the-post of the March 5 House of Representatives election.
