Kathmandu : The newly elected President of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Thapa, has appealed to all party members to move head in a united and integrated manner.

President Thapa made this appeal by issuing a press statement on Friday evening following the Election Commission’s decision to recognize the NC leadership elected by the recent Second Special General Convention (SGC).

“Rule of law, the statute, and the system have been established in the Nepali Congress. The SGC was not a matter of dispute, and the Election Commission’s decision was made in accordance with the Constitution, existing laws, and the party’s statute,” he said, expressing gratitude to the EC. He said this was the result of the sincere efforts made by NC members and well-wishers for meaningful transformation and national prosperity.

According to him, the party functions not in the interests of a few leaders but in the interests of the mass membership. He added that the NC has now returned to its roots, values, norms, and ideologies.
He urged all those who participated in the SGC, as well as those who stayed away, and all party members from the local to the central level, both at home and abroad, to view this development as the establishment of the primacy of the rule of law rather than a matter of win or loss.

“No need to be confused; maintain restraint, unity and responsibility to retain trust and confidence,” Thapa said in the appeal, asserting that NC has begun a journey of new Congress with renewed energy, unity and transformation. In the journey of reform, high confidence, detailed preparation for March 5 election and unified initiative are imperative, he added.

He expressed confidence that former President of NC, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and other leaders in various capacities would support party’s democratic process.

Thapa further vowed end of factions and sharing in the party. Everyone- the members at grassroots and central President- have equal status irrespective of post. NC is not a property of certain leaders but a public capital.

President Gagan Thapa stated that the recently held SGC has reviewed and self-criticized the party’s past mistakes. It has made a firm determination to move ahead to further institutionalize the achievements made so far.

Thapa said that the NC will grasp the expectations of Nepali people along with the new generation’s aspirations for transformation. He vowed to make NC a democratic and people-oriented political party that will never compromise against the NC’s norms and principles.

“Formation of the unnatural alliance with anyone for the cause of power will be ended,” President Thapa said.
