Kathmandu, Jan 24: Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru has vowed to extend continued support to Nepal’s development endeavours.
At a programme today on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic ties and the 52nd anniversary of JICA Alumni Association Nepal (JAAN), the Japanese Ambassador pledged to support in Nepal’s technical development, human resource development, education, communications, roads and agriculture sector as per the aspirations of Nepali people.
On the occasion, Ambassador Maeda stressed the need for further strengthening mutual traditions and cultures in the days to come.
Likewise, Chief Representative of the JICA Nepal Office, Matsuzaki Mizuki said that JICA was supporting in 21 sectors including health, education, energy, good governance, agriculture and others for the past four decades for Nepal’s economic development, peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
JAAN President Dr Ramchandra Bhusal said that Japan has been a good friend of Nepal, providing selfless, reliable and long-term support.
He stated that the JAAN’s programmes reflected the intention to strengthen Nepal–Japan relations.
Bhusal expressed gratitude to Japan for its support in Nepal’s community development, assistance during natural disasters such as earthquakes, and contribution to economic, social and cultural development.
JAAN Vice President Kiran Rupakheti stated that the Association has been working for more than five decades as a strong network of trained experts, drawing on Japan’s knowledge, discipline, work culture and development philosophy.
At the programme, JICA Nepal’s Chief Matsuzaki and JAAN President Bhusal gave separate presentations on the topics Nepal can learn from Japan, in the context of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal–Japan diplomatic relations. JAAN lifelong member and border expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha was honoured on the occasion.
At the programme, General Secretary of JAAN Shantilakshmi Shakya provided information about the works carried out by the Association over the past year.
On the occasion Ambassador Maeda unveiled the souvenir publication ‘Milan’ published by JAAN. People who contributed articles published in the commemorative publication were awarded certificates of appreciation.
JAAN was established five decades ago with the aim of promoting friendship and mutual understanding between Nepal and Japan.
