Kathmandu : The government is set to form a high-powered property investigation committee within 15 days to end the widespread corruption, the tendency to hide assets, and impunity in the country.
The government has stated in its public governance reform agenda announced today that the committee will include experts in law, finance, revenue, and investigation, as well as representatives from relevant bodies.
In the first phase, the committee is tasked with collecting, verifying, and investigating the property details of office-bearers of the major political parties and high-ranking government employees who have held public office from 2062/63 BS (2006/07) to the present, that is, 2082/83 BS (2025/26).
In the second phase, the assets of officials and employees of the same nature who held public positions from 1991 to 2004/05 will be investigated. The schedule mentions that the investigation process will be conducted impartially according to legal standards, and based on evidence, and that the reports and recommendations submitted by the committee will be implemented through the relevant bodies.
Similarly, it is stated that the restructuring plan of the National Vigilance Centre will be prepared and implemented within 30 days to promote good governance, control corruption, and enhance transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
