Kathmandu : President Ramchandra Paudel has said that political stability is necessary for sustainable development, prosperity and social justice.
He said so while inaugurating the Silver Jubilee function of the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities (NFDIN) and the Nepal Indigenous Knowledge Conference here today.

“Political stability is utterly necessary for the country’s sustainable development, prosperity and social justice. We must not forget that political stability is only possible when the state implements an inclusive governance system by gaining the trust of all castes and communities,” the President said.
He stated that Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multicultural, and multi-religious nation and, as expressed in our national anthem, Nepal is like a beautiful garden of hundreds of different flowers.

“To make this garden more beautiful, prosperous and balanced, equal access, equal opportunities and equal respect for all castes, languages, cultures and communities is essential. This is also the goal specified by our Constitution,” President Paudel added.

The Head of State viewed that the languages, scripts, culture, traditions, value systems, knowledge systems, and religious beliefs of indigenous communities are not merely cultural assets but also invaluable foundations of Nepal’s national identity. He emphasised that he believes the state must play a more effective role policy-wise, institutionally, and structurally in their protection, promotion, and proper development.

“Indigenous knowledge systems are not limited to tradition alone. They also serve as the pillars of cultural identity, environmental protection, and sustainable development,” said President Paudel.

“Indigenous knowledge systems are not limited to tradition alone. They also serve as the pillars of cultural identity, environmental protection and sustainable development,” said President Paudel.

He added: “The traditional knowledge, agricultural systems, art, language, worldview and spiritual practices associated with various indigenous communities of Nepal constitute a living national asset, guiding our society towards coexistence, tolerance and prosperity.”

President Paudel expressed hope that the conference would make a significant contribution to establishing indigenous knowledge at the centre of intellectual and policy debates and also extended good wishes that this historic occasion of the silver jubilee would inspire the stronger integration of the knowledge, culture, and identity of indigenous communities into the mainstream of national development.
