Kathmandu, Feb 24: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has pointed out the need for the state to effectively implement the one-door system to facilitate non-governmental organizations.
Inaugurating the digital service delivery system of the Social Welfare Council here today, she said that the Council needs to be further strengthened as an autonomous body and umbrella organization for social organizations.
“To fulfill the responsibility entrusted by the Social Welfare Act, there is a need to provide adequate infrastructure and resources to the council, and the attention of the concerned government bodies should also be drawn to this,” the Prime Minister said. She also expressed the belief that the digital service delivery system launched today would make the council’s functioning efficient, transparent and predictable.
The Prime Minister noted that it is the common responsibility of the state and civil society organizations to create an environment where every member of society can be included in the mainstream of development.
Stating that the spirit of charity is the basis of our social unity, he said that service was previously provided with a sense of kindness and compassion, but today it is being viewed from the perspective of social justice, rights, and equal opportunities. “Peace, harmony, and justice will be secured in society only when the spirit of service remains alive.”
She also said that non-governmental organizations have been making important contributions in various fields such as health, education, empowerment, inclusion, poverty alleviation, community development, and environmental protection.
Prime Minister Karki noted that the relevance of NGOs will further increase if they move forward by embracing public participation, sustainability, target group-oriented programs, and the spirit of volunteerism.
