Khotang : The ‘Biodiversity and Red Panda-Tahr International Conference 2083’ concluded in Diktel bazaar on Sunday with a seven-point Diktel Declaration. The conference had begun on Friday aiming at conserving wildlife facing extinction and promoting tourism.
The declaration paper includes bio-diversity conservation, nature-based livelihood and employment creation, sustainable development and eco-tourism promotion, human-wildlife conflict management and commitment to strengthen local and international cooperation.
The three-day conference declared the Diktel declaration with the commitment to run participatory programmes by integrating traditional practices, scientific knowledge and international exposures.
Mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality Tirtharaj Bhattarai said that the first kind of its conference was successfully held with partnership of different agencies.
Various federal and provincial government agencies and academic institutions extended support to the three-day event. The international conference was attended by the peoples from Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, the USA, Australia and Germany.
The experts and representatives from various countries presented 10 working papers in the conference. Special focus was made on biodiversity conservation, formulation of long-term plan, areas of wildlife facing extinct, identification of priority areas and issues, and national and international commitment relating to biodiversity.
The artworks (on red panda and tahr) created with the use of bamboo wicks were major attraction at the conference.
