Kathmandu, May 28: Bakra-Eid, the second biggest festival of the Muslim community, is being observed by the Muslim community across the country today. The festival is observed on the 70th day of Eid al-Fitr or Ramadan.

On this day, Muslims visit the nearest mosques after a morning bath and attend a mass prayer to read the Namaj. After completing the reading of the Namaj, they exchange greetings by hugging each other.

On the occasion, there will be a crowd of Islam religious people in mosques across the country, including Nepali Jame Masjid (mosque) in Durbar Marga, Kathmandu and Kashmiri Masjid. The festival will be observed up to coming Saturday.

Likewise, the government has announced a public holiday for Thursday (today) to mark the Eid-al Adha, the Bakra Eid. President Ramchandra Paudel and Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav have extended greetings to all for their happiness, peace and prosperity on the occasion of this Bakra-Eid festival.

President Paudel has expressed confidence that unity among diversity would strengthen national aspirations and could disseminate the message of mutual brotherhood and equality.

The President stated this festival would further deepen our close ties with the motherland to contribute to national prosperity and development. Such festivals contribute to preserve, promote and develop ones’ unique cultures and traditions, the President has mentioned in his message. Similarly, Vice President Yadav has mentioned that this festival is considered a symbol of sacrifice and dedication adding that this festival would inspire one and all to unite in society with sympathy, cooperation and brotherhood.

The Vice President has expressed confidence that this festival would support to strengthen the aspirations of social justice and equality while upholding the culture of supporting the needy ones.

Furthermore, National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has expressed confidence that this festival would strengthen religious and cultural goodwill, adding that this festival carries the message of dedication, humanity, tolerance and philanthropy.

In the message of best wishes, NA Chairman Dahal viewed that such festival are crucial to uplift our national unity by strengthening mutual respect, goodwill and the culture of coexistence in the Nepali community.

Likewise, Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has stated that such festivals have maintained the prideful tradition of mutual respect, tolerance and goodwill, and has wished for happiness, peace and prosperity to all members of the Muslim community.

In his message of best wishes, NC President Thapa has stated that Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural country.
