Kathmandu, June 4: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that consciousness at all levels and classes in society, tolerance and development of the sense of mutual respect are inevitable for the elimination of inhumane practices such as racial discrimination and untouchability. He added that mere legal provisions were not sufficient for this to act.

In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the National Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability, 2083 BS today, the President has mentioned that this day has reminded all Nepalis to unite in building an equitable, civilized and inclusive society.

President Puadel has expressed his best wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad wishing them happiness, peace, prosperity and social goodwill.
This day has offered an inspiration to remain further committed to a discrimination-free, inclusive and civilized society by protecting and promoting human dignity, equality and social justice, the President stated in his message.

President Paudel has emphasized the need for all citizens, the government agencies, political parties, civil society, journalists, educational institutions and stakeholders to remain further sensitive to make the democratic system more meaningful by firmly standing against caste discrimination and untouchability.
The National Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability is marked on 21 of the Nepali month of Jestha every year to commemorate the day when the government declared the country a ‘caste discrimination-free nation’ on Jestha 21, 2063 BS (June 4, 2006).
