Kathmandu : Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has forwarded a process to retrieve the 14th-century historical jewels of the Taleju Bhawani by holding talks to a representative of the US Embassy in Nepal.
Acting Mayor of KMC, Sunita Dangol, had a discussion on it during a courtesy meeting she had with the US Charge d’Affaires to Nepal, Scott Urbom.
Dangol said, “We are dedicated to a campaign of returning the archaeologically significant objects which were trafficked from Kathmandu to various foreign museums. For it, we advance necessary legal and diplomatic procedures.”
In response to queries by Charge d’Affaires Urbom, Acting Mayor Dangol reminded her commitment to focusing the activities that align with citizen’s expectations and adherence to the legal and human rights standards.
The Taleju Bhawani bears special significance in the Newar community. The Goddess is regarded as the ‘ista devata’ of the Newar people, symbolizing power, rule and prosperity since the Malla era.
The Goddess is revered as a maternal power, a divine force. The Karnataka King Harihar Singh Dev had brought the Taleju Bhawani to Nepal in the 14th century. Since then, the Malla Kings venerated her as the protector of the State as per historic records.
The Newar community worships the Taleju Bhawani in a tantric manner. The Taleju Temples of Hanuman Dhoka, Bhaktapur and Patan are some of the famous shrines visited once in a year- on ninth day of Dashaian festival in Nepal.
