Lalitpur : President Ramchandra Paudel has said judicious questions on governance help keep democracy alive. Addressing a programme in the federal capital on the occasion of International Youth Day on Wednesday, the President reiterated that reasonable questions are keys to thriving democracy. “Youths are partners, creators and change makers not only for tomorrow but also for present time,” President Paudel said, adding that youth presence is instrumental in making economic and political activities dynamic. They also advance technology, culture, research and public debate, he reminded.

The Head of State said the new generation is vibrant and acquainted with technology and world affairs. Despite having these qualities, they need to have courage to put forth questions, he underlined.

In view of the President, youths are foundation for nation-building; they should respect the glorious history of their ancestors and learn from their experiences. “Youths with newness are helpful in spurring economy and science, and advancing society with equality and rights,” he added.

The President made special requests to the youths to connect society and world. Youth talent should be coupled with honesty, according to him.
Addressing the programme organized by Onlinekhabar.com honouring 40 youths under 40, President Paudel said all Nepali youths- living in village to city, working in country to abroad and in various walks of life- have equal contribution to nation-building. About the selection of 40 youths for award, Paudel believed such transparent, inclusive and diversity-oriented selection process would reach further to the youths, who are awaiting opportunities.

In the President’s observation, the voice of youths is being heard in social and political debates, which he argued, would help augment renewal of ideas and working styles. “Every generation plays its part in creating future. Now it’s your turn,” he reminded.

Moreover, the Head of State said diverse views should be allowed to prosper freely. Dissent is not a weakness of democracy, as the responsible disagreement strengthens the system. He also reminded the salient features of Nepal’s Constitution like freedom of expression and press.

Unhealthy and severe competition in spreading information quickly may challenge responsible media. Misleading public with false information is harmful to system, so clean information atmosphere is imperative, he suggested.
