Kathmandu, Aug 18: Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army, General Dhiraj Seth, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Balendra Shah, also the Defence Minister, at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar today.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, was also present in the meeting, according to PM Shah’s Press and Research Expert, Dipa Dahal.
Leading a five-member delegation, General Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday on a four-day official visit, at the invitation of Chief of Army Staff of Nepali Army, Ashok Raj Sigdel.
Following customary tradition, President Ramchandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on Indian CoAS, General Seth, at a special programme organised at Shital Niwas on Monday.
The honorary rank is conferred on the army chiefs of the two countries under a tradition that Nepal and India have maintained since 1950.
A bilateral meeting was held between CoAS Sigdel and General Seth on Monday itself. Matter related to further strengthening the bilateral military relations between Nepal and India as well as mutual welfare were discussed during the meeting.
On the occasion, General Seth handed over military and health appliances to the Nepali Army. Similarly, the Indian Army Chief offered worship at Pashupatunath Temple this morning. The Indian delegation is scheduled to return home on Wednesday.
