Kathmandu, Aug 23: The government has made a three-point commitment to ensure justice for Garima’s family. It is reported that a significant agreement was reached concerning the tragic case of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary from Jitpur Simra sub-metropolitan city-1 in Bara district. During a meeting at the Home Ministry on Saturday evening, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, along with other relevant ministers, met with Garima’s parents and government representatives to discuss the matter.
As part of the agreement, they decided to review the current laws regarding crimes and punishments, aiming to draft new legislation that aligns with citizens’ expectations for handling heinous crimes.
This report is expected to be submitted within a week. To facilitate this, the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs will establish a seven-member committee.’
Additionally, in response to the family’s wishes, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development will work with local authorities to create a memorial for Garima. The home minister’s office has also assured that Garima’s parents will be allowed to conduct her funeral in accordance with their customs and traditions.
The agreement was signed by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobhita Gautam, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security Sita Badi and Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Geeta Chaudhary.
Garima Chaudhary’s father Manoj Kumar Chaudhary and mother Manmati Chaudhary have signed the letter on behalf of the victim’s family.
The agreement between the government and the victim’s family committed to addressing the demands of the victim’s family in addition to proceeding with the judicial process of the incident. –
