Kathmandu, Sept 18: The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation has reported that 677 workers are unaccounted for following the Bhote Koshi floods.
The Federation disclosed this information during a meeting held on Thursday—coordinated by Rajiv Pokharel, Director General of the Department of Transport Management. Furthermore, 515 trucks and containers have gone missing.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has formed a committee, coordinated by Director General Pokharel, to assess the human and physical damage caused by the floods and to prepare a report containing recommendations regarding the basis for compensation. The committee has been tasked with submitting the report, along with its recommendations, within 15 days.
The committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, the Infrastructure Development Minister’s secretariat, transport entrepreneurs, and transport workers’ unions, as well as members including Rajendra Bikram Baniya (President of the Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation) and Badri Prasad Chaulagai (General Secretary of the Federation).
