KATHMANDU: Election Commission (EC) has said 57 political parties are taking part in the election to be held on November 20.
The election body said only 57 political parties have filed nominations under the first-past-the-post system in the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Province Assembly (PA).
Prior to this, 86 parties had registered at the EC for election purpose.
According to the EC, the number of political parties contending in the voting is varied as they are 30 in Province 1, thirty-seven in the Madhes, 32 in Bagmati, 23 in Gandaki, 25 in Lumbini, 16 in Karnali and 20 in the Sudur Paschim in the PA elections.
The EC said 17 million 988 thousand 570 people (9,140,806 males, 8,847,579 females and 185 others) are eligible for voting this time.
