Kathmandu, April 6: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister, Rabi Lamichhane has said that he will immediately talk to the Prime Minister regarding taking the necessary initiatives for rescuing the Nepali nationals affiliated in the Russian Army.

During a meeting Friday with the family members of those Nepalis associated with the Russian Army, the DPM and Home Minister said he was fully aware of the problem and the problem was due to the lack of effective inter-country coordination. He asserted that he would immediately discuss this issue with the Prime Minister.
“I am fully informed of your pain. You have additional ordeal within Nepal also due to the lack of coordination. I will hold discussions with the Prime Minister in a day or two how the coordination could be made in this regard,” he said on the occasion.

The Campaign to Save Lives of Nepali Affiliated to Russian Army had urged the DPM and Home Minister to take initiatives for the rescue of Nepalis working in the Russian Army and saving their lives in the context of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

The families of those Nepalis working in the Russian Army, together with the Campaign, also handed over an 11-point memorandum to the DPM and Home Minister Lamichhane on the occasion. Among the demands include safe rescue of the Nepalis associated with the Russian Army, providing proper relief to the dependent families of those killed in the Russia-Ukraine war, making public the condition of those said to have been killed in the war but whose status is not confirmed, searching for those said to be missing and rescuing those Nepalis held prisoners of war by Ukraine and providing medical treatment to the injured ones.

The families had also put forth a demand with the Home Minister to arrest some people who took money from them saying they would safely bring back to Nepal their relatives in the Russian Army.
