KATHMANDU: Minister of Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel, has stressed the urgent need for collaborative efforts to combat the rising threat of cervical cancer in Nepal.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Tuesday, organized to commemorate World Cancer Day, Minister Paudel stated that significant work remains in the fight against cancer, particularly in prevention and treatment.
“Many of our mothers, sisters, and peers have succumbed to cervical cancer. Data shows that four women die from this disease every day in Nepal. This is deeply concerning,” said Minister Paudel. “Our national objective is to reduce these numbers and move towards complete eradication. Achieving this requires the concerted effort of everyone.”
Highlighting the importance of both preventive and curative approaches, he noted that coordinated initiatives are essential to bring cervical cancer under control.
“We need to implement widespread measures for cancer prevention while simultaneously enhancing our treatment capabilities,” he remarked.
Minister Paudel also pointed out that despite the willingness to work towards this cause, a lack of necessary resources and means remains a challenge. However, he expressed confidence that through collaboration, it is possible to significantly reduce the burden of cancer in Nepal.
