Four-year dispute between KU, Dhulikel Hospital settled

Kathmandu, Jan 17: Dispute occurred between the Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital for the past four years has been settled.

The dispute between the two organisations ended after today’s 98th meeting of Kathmandu University Assembly endorsed the report with suggestion of Facilitation Committee formed to resolve the dispute.
Today’s meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Chancellor of the KU, KP Sharma Oli, passed the report of the seven-member Facilitation Committee formed under coordination of member of National Planning Commission, Gita Kumari Paudyal Adhikari.

As per the report, a committee has been formed under coordination of NPC member Adhikari for the preparation of new agreement within three months. Prof Dr Rishikesh Wagle and Prof Dr Manoj Humagain from KU side and Dr Biraj Man Karmacharya and Prof Dr Rajeev Shrestha from hospital side are also in the committee, according to PM Oli’s Private Secretariat.

The committee would present the draft of the new agreement in next senate. Similarly, three-member Interim Facilitation Committee comprising Dean and Administrative Director of the respective faculties has been formed to operate daily activities of both organisations until agreement.

Earlier in senate meetings, KU Chancellor and PM Oli had urged both organization not to bring a proposal of splitting.

An agreement was reached to hold mutual discussion as per the guideline of the 97th meeting of KU Assembly held on August 14, 2024 after misunderstanding took place between the two organisations.
Expressing happiness over finding out solution by the committee formed to settle the dispute, PM Oli shared that it has now opened a new path.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Bhola Thapa, Dean of School of Medical Sciences, Prof Dr Manoj Humagain, Dean of School of Law, Dr Rishi Kesh Wagle from KU and Executive Director Dr Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Administrative Director Dr Biraj Man Karmacharya and Research Director Prof Dr Rajeev Shrestha from hospital side were in the Facilitation Committee.
