Kathmandu, May 30: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has expressed the government’s commitment to effectively implement the women rights, gender equality and women empowerment.

In a message of best wishes delivered on the occasion of 8th National Women Rights Day, he noted the Constitution has guaranteed women’s rights as fundamental human rights and ensured proportional and inclusive representation as well as meaningful participation in all state bodies.

Prime Minister Shah stated that creating public awareness alongside legal arrangements was a must to eliminate ill-practice such as child marriage, witchcraft, Chhaupadi, dowry as well as gender-based, domestic, and digital violence.

He emphasised on active collaboration among the state, community and all stakeholders for the protection and promotion of women’s rights.
The Head of the Government pledged to work to end all forms of violence, oppression, and discrimination against women through the empowerment of economically, socially, and educationally disadvantaged women towards building a self-reliant and prosperous society.

On the same occasion, Minister for Women, Children, Gender, and Social Security Sita Badi underlined the essence of the state and community for the protection of women’s rights, gender equality, and social transformation.

In the message issued on the occasion, she asserted full implementation of statute-guaranteed women’s rights guaranteed requires the commitment and active participation of all sides.

She added women’s rights are not merely the matter of legal provisions or policy declarations, but are associated with social behaviour, equal access to opportunities, and dignified participation.

This year, National Women’s Rights Day is being celebrated with the slogan ‘Respect for Women’s Rights: Campaign for Self-Reliance and Prosperity’.
