LUMBINI: In a major effort to safeguard Nepal’s cultural heritage, the U.S. Embassy, in collaboration with the Lumbini Development Trust and the Department of Archaeology, has launched the Lumbini Museum Conservation Project.
The initiative is powered by a $244,966 grant from the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. This funding will support the conservation and documentation of the Lumbini Museum’s priceless collection of ancient artifacts, many of which are integral to Nepal’s historical and spiritual identity.
Key to the project is the establishment of the region’s first advanced conservation laboratory.
This facility will provide cutting-edge tools for local and international experts to study and preserve artifacts not only from Lumbini but also from nearby archaeological sites of significance.
The initiative also emphasizes skill-building with a training program aimed at strengthening local expertise in cultural preservation.
This ensures that the knowledge and techniques for artifact conservation will endure, benefiting future generations and protecting Nepal’s heritage in the long term.
Since 2003, the U.S. Embassy has invested in cultural preservation across Nepal, contributing to projects that celebrate and protect the nation’s rich heritage.
