Birgunj (Parsa) : The Nepal-India Border District Coordination Committee meeting today concluded with a joint commitment to forge necessary coordination and cooperation to reduce transnational crime and maintain law and order in the bordering region.
The meeting of the Committee was held between the Chief District Officers, Chiefs of Security Agencies of Parsa and Bara districts and the District Magistrates and Chiefs of Security Agencies of the neighboring border districts of East and West Champaran districts of India.
It is part of regular meetings held between the chiefs of border districts and security agencies to reduce transnational crime and other activities that may occur in the border area, said Parsa CDO Ganesh Aryal. The Indian side also sought support in maintaining a vigil in view of the upcoming elections in Bihar State of India.
Discussion was also held on exchanging information between the two sides on the matters of counterfeit currency and controlling cross-border smuggling.
The meeting discussed issues such as pollution of the Sirsia River, control of illegal trade, human trafficking, rescue and assistance in the event of disasters, and fake currency notes.
Chief District Officer of Bara Basant Adhikari from the Nepali side, and District Magistrate of East Champaran district Saurabh Jaurawal, Deputy Development Commissioner of West Champaran Sumit Kumar, and Indian Paramilitary Force SSB, East and West Champaran district police chiefs were present in the meeting.
